About Ooty
Ooty, also known Ootacamund or Udhagamandalam had been the romantic destination for honey mooners, it has become one of the most sought after holiday destination today. The “Queen of Hill Stations” Ooty was developed in the early 1800 by the British, located 7349 feet above the sea level; it is a nature lover’s paradise. Covering over an area of 36 sq miles the picturesque hill station is nestled in The Nilgiri ranges. This hill station boasts of being home to many coffee and tea plantations. It is also home to different species of trees such as eucalyptus pine, wattle, pepper, cardamom, which gives a fresh aroma where ever you go in Ooty.
Ooty can be visited at any time of the year. It is not only perfect for picnics and sight seeing, but you can also enjoy golf, horse racing (during season), rock climbing, trekking, adventure sports, elephant rides, horse riding, nature camps, wild life safaris, fishing and also take a ride in the Heritage steam train.
Culture in Ooty
The quaint hill station of Ooty has a mixed culture, while South Indians dominate the populace; the town has also strong Christian influence. During India’s colonial years, several Britishers have settled in the oasis of idyllic green. Consequently the hill resort is endowed with a splendid amalgam of diverse ethnicity. The native inhabitants of Ooty, the members of the Toda tribe are also found in large numbers.
Accessibility to Ooty
Ooty is accessible by Rail and road. The toy train or the heritage steam chariot (an extension of the Chennai Mettupalayam Express) can be taken from the Mettupalayam station (at the foothills of The Nilgiris) to Ooty railway station. This is a long, yet scenic journey of 60 kms, where the train passes away 17 tunnels.
Ooty, can also be accessed by bus by frequent buses plying from allover Tamilnadu and neighboring states.
Ooty, can be reached by air until Coimbatore most flights are available till Coimbatore. It takes about 100 kms and a 3 hour ride either by bus or a taxi to reach Ooty, via Coonoor.
Local transportation includes Mini buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and even horse chariots.

Some weekends gateways include Mudumalai wild life sanctuary, Bandipur wild life sanctuary, Masinagudi, Singara moyar, Mukuruti water falls, the western cashment, and the Avalanche fishing spot.
Botanical Garden
This is one of the oldest gardens in The Nilgiris established in the year 1848 by Mr. John Sullivan with an area of 2250 meters above sea level with a walkthrough area in the pleasant green meadows along with thousands of flowers and trees having vast area for kids play. There is a minimum fee as entry.
Rose Garden
This garden has been established in the 90’s with a area of 2200 metres above seal level in an area of 4 hectares which has more than 3000 varieties of rose plants and flowers perfectly situated in the heart of Ooty.
Ooty Lake and Boat house
This wonderful lake was built by Mr. John Sullivan in 1825 with a wide spread area of 2.5 kms in length and 40 feet long where we can have a breathtaking ride in the boats and even have a thrilling fishing too.
Dodabetta Peak
The highest peak in South India standing high up about 2250 feet above sea level, Dodabetta was started in 1848 has a number of tourists who can view the fascinating view of the beautiful valleys and the plains.
Kallahatty Waterfalls
A tremendous and lonely outs cape about 30 kms from the Ooty,on the way to Masinagudi, this cascade attracts all nature lovers and tourists for its location at the remote area of The Nilgiris.
Pykara falls and Dam
Situated at the remote area from Ooty about 20 kms, on the way of the Ooty Mysore road is one of the unique tourist attraction where one can enjoy a great boating ride and fishing in the vast spread cascade.
The Toda house and Museum
One of the Traditional symbols of The Nilgiris stands as a great monument of The Nilgiris tribe and culture and the way of living of the peoples who still bo their living in The Nilgiris.
The 6th miles and 9th Miles
Situated on the Thalakunda - Ooty road, this unique place has a vast spread lake surrounded by the blemishing green, high pine trees where one can enjoy a fabulous time fishing.
